And it is building up capacity to deliver content to mobile devices.
DVB-T2 stands for Digital Video Broadcasting – Second Generation Terrestrial. It is the extension of the television standard DVB-T, created for the broadcast transmission of digital terrestrial television. It offers higher efficiency, robustness and flexibility, enabling efficient use of valuable terrestrial spectrum for the delivery of audio, video and data services to fixed, portable and mobile devices.
Said Mr Joe Igoe, MediaCorp’s chief technology officer: “We’ve got four T2 channels about broadcasting – four T2 multiplexes in Singapore – so effectively we can deliver to close to 100 mega-bits to all of Singapore simultaneously and we’re building our pretty impressive DVB-T2 network with in-building coverage so we expect about 90 somewhat per cent of homes will be able to receive DVB-T2 on their mobile device inside their residence.”
